As chance had it, the same day I received my new Holgaroid in the mail, I have a photoshoot with two lovely ladies. This is my very first time using it, so bear with me. But how fun are they?!

One of my very first cameras ever, was a Polaroid One Step 600 camera, bought by my grandma in the late 90's. (thanks gram!) It somehow went missing during college :/ then I got some other modern polaroids that ended up breaking, so I've been on the search for something else. Enter, the Holgroid! It's perfectly simple and lo-fi. I love it, and can't wait to find more projects for it.

I recently bought this book for a friend, which is inspiring and helped me decide on finally buying this instant back.

The sun sets late in June, which is my favorite.

I've been aching to do some personal work for a while. So I took out one of my medium format Yashika's and some Kodak Portra Film. This image was shot with my Mark II 5D. 

The images shot with film will be a series of portraits, which will be an ongoing project. I will post them as I get them developed. It's a longer process because I have to send them away, as I don't have the luxury of hoping on a train to soho to get them developed anymore.

Apple Cinnamon Scones

I love scones. This recipe has been my go to. Simple perfect and I think the sour cream makes it perfect.

*NOTE I sautéed apples with butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, and lemon juice until soft and caramelized. Let them cool. Mixed them in INSTEAD of currants.
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup dried currants or raisins
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. Sift the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt into a large bowl. Cut in butter using a pastry blender or rubbing between your fingers until it is in pea sized lumps. Stir in the currants. Mix together 1/2 cup milk and sour cream in a measuring cup. Pour all at once into the dry ingredients, and stir gently until well blended. Overworking the dough results in terrible scones!
  3. With floured hands, pat scone dough into balls 2 to 3 inches across, depending on what size you want. Place onto a greased baking sheet, and flatten lightly. Let the scones barely touch each other. Whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of milk. Brush the tops of the scones with the egg wash. Let them rest for about 10 minutes.
  4. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until the tops are golden brown, not deep brown. Break each scone apart, or slice in half. Serve with butter or clotted cream and a selection of jams - or even plain.

It seems something is wrong with my camera, the edges keep coming out black and there are streaks down the side :/ This is impossible film

Red Velvet Ombre Salted Caramel Swiss Meringue

A few days ago it was my birthday and I made myself a cake. Finally used the canon to shoot something instead of my iPhone. Trying to do more of that.

It was my birthday. I turned 27 on the 16th. Made myself a red velvet ombre cake with salted caramel swiss meringue icing. Trying to enjoy walks with Koali, baking more and tending to my garden. Those yellow lilies were a gift last year and to my surprise they bloomed again this year!

Limu Poke

Occasionally my grandmother makes me extremely jealous, because she's just bought half an Aku from the man down the road who just caught it that morning. Besides it being extremely fresh, she's probably paid a few bucks for it. In upstate, NY I'm not so fortunate. I can buy Ahi at the grocery store for way too much and I usually make it into Limu Poke. Suits my cravings for now.

We shot a country themed wedding this weekend in Montrose, PA. The couple were so sweet and spread the festivities over a week on their enormous rural property. It's been rough getting back to work, my body isn't quite ready for full days, but we are getting there.
